Risk and protection

Investing in stocks, ETFs, mutual funds, options, crypto, and other products can lose money, including your entire investment. Crypto prices can fall to zero, and a crypto transfer is often irreversible. Some products, including options and margin, can lose more than the cash you deposited. SIPC protection, for customers of member broker-dealers, is about missing assets if the brokerage fails. It does not protect you against a decline in market value. FDIC insurance, where a bank sweep is involved, has its own limits. Crypto balances are generally outside both regimes. Read the disclosure for the specific balance.
