What to gather before you apply at Charles Schwab
The ID, tax details, and employment answers on a Schwab account application.
Have these in front of you
- A government photo ID: driver’s license, state ID, or passport.
- Your Social Security number, for Schwab’s form only.
- Your current U.S. home address, even if mail goes somewhere else.
- Employment status and your employer’s name.
- Honest ranges for income and net worth. The form uses ranges.
- Bank routing and account numbers, later, on Schwab’s funding screen.
- The other firm’s statement, if you will transfer an account in.
Match the legal name
The name on the ID, the bank account, and the Schwab application should be the same legal name. A nickname or a missing middle name is a common reason the identity check fails. If your name changed, Schwab may ask for the court or marriage document through their secure upload. Do not email a photo of the ID to Northline.
Affiliations Schwab will ask about
Say so if you work at a brokerage, an exchange, or a regulator, or if a spouse does and the form asks. Say so if you are an officer or a large owner of a public company. Those answers are routine. Hiding them is what creates the problem later.
This guide is education from Northline Guides, not a recommendation to buy or sell any security, and not a page from Charles Schwab. Broker steps change. Use Get help if you want Northline to walk through the screen. That request does not open a case at Charles Schwab.
